Diversity in India: Prospects
and Challenges -- M S Bhatt and A
K M Nazrul Islam
Man is an intrinsic
part of nature. The relationship between the two evolved in
a symbiotic manner. Of late, this relationship has become
antagonistic. Overuse of environmental capital is one of the
major determinants of the growing trade-off between the sustainable
use of the environmental capital and economic development.
Its consequences have also been widely reported and possible
solutions have been proposed. Linkages between economy and
environment have been recasted from different perspectives.

Estimation of Demand
Curve for Clean Air for Industrial Workers
with Contingent Valuation Method --
Ashok Kumar
The paper estimates
the demand curve for clean air by constructing a consumer
utility function in the Hicksian framework by using the contingent
valuation method. Through this empirical verification, the
author establishes that if a hypothetical market is constructed
carefully, the individual preferences can be inferred to obtain
significant results for valuating the environmental changes.
