but Not Too Much Trumpeting!
-- Val Singh
This article sheds light on the potential of impression
management as a tool, particularly for women who may find
the idea of building up a profile somewhat outside their "comfort

to be modest and their beliefs in fairness which means that
good bosses should know who are performing and put them forward
for the next step up. Reality in organizational life is often
otherwise, and so top 10 tips are provided to help women build
up their profile without bragging.

Women
Executives : Career Restraints and Career Facilitators
-- Divya Nigam
Despite
women having gained remarkable accolades for their sincerity
and hard work in the workplace over last several decades,
the materialization of the same in terms of monetary gains
has been meager. They still earn comparatively lesser emoluments
than their male counterparts for similar tasks undertaken
and the respect earned for the work is even lower. The number
of women found holding top corporate jobs is also countable.

ISSUES
Reversing
the Role Stagnation in Academic Institutions
-- Sajikumar
The
rapid growth of private management institutions and the subsequent
increase in the demand for management education are engendered
by the job creation as a spillover benefit of the high trajectory
in the economic growth. This brings the focus on the issues
and challenges in earning and sustaining the recognition of
the institution in the market which is becoming increasingly
competitive. It is obvious that to a great extent this will
depend upon the strategy adopted by any institute to nurture
and manage the scarce pool of talented and persevering faculty
members.

CHALLENGES
The
Incredible Power of HR
-- Chitra Mukunnan
The
economic prophets have billed India as an emerging global
economic superpower. The imperative of turning these prophecies
into reality is compelling. A strong and unbreakable link
has to be established from the refinement of the past to the
excitement of the present and to the potential of the future.
There is a need to think of how to meet the demand and project
India as a nation. India has a demographic weight—there is,
of course, a 20-million strong Indian diaspora in the key
countries across the globe and every sixth human being is
an Indian—and it cannot afford to be fooled by the euphoria
of small achievements or succumb to minor setbacks, but must
prepare to forge ahead.

A
properly managed and staffed human resources department can
change the face of the organization for the better! It can
strengthen the organization as a whole, and provide for a
top-level competitive advantage, rather than the typical data-gathering,
form-filling department that one sees in most organizations.

PERCEPTIONS
If
Abled are Gold, Disabled are Diamond
-- CT George
Disability per se is a drag on one's personality. Without
opportunity, disability is a burden. Already, there is enough
misery all around and the pain of disability increases it
further. But there is a silver lining that has to be illustrated
and illuminated by the disabled themselves. The history of
the world is nothing but the biographies of abled and disabled,
because the hope of the world lies in their deeds and words.

Decisions
Based on Self-Appraisal of Public and Private Sector Bank
Employees
-- Khushdip Kaur
The
utility of self-rating or self-appraisal is a subject of hot
debate in human resource literature. The days of traditional
supervisor-subordinate performance evaluations have gone.
Due importance is given to self-appraisals done by employees
themselves nowadays. Self-appraisal is an important part of
the performance appraisal process where an employee himself
gives the feedback or his views regarding his performance.
It brings to appraiser's notice certain relevant facts which
could have otherwise escaped his notice. It thus helps in
producing a more balanced and objective report.

Temping
- An Introduction and Delegation and Empowerment for Growth
-- BVS Prasad, Sangeetha K and Sandeep Ray Chaudhuri
The
rapidly changing business scenario of Liberalization, Privatization
and Globalization (LPG) has made the concept of temping grow
faster by gaining approval as a proficient way of employing
talented workforce. Temporary staff agencies proffer a surplus
of explicit staffing solutions to the clients to meet their
changing business demands.
