Justifying
Business Value of IT Through Service Prioritization --
Malla
Praveen Bhasa
In
today's changing business scenario, risks and uncertainties
have become inevitable. While there are unavoidable business
challenges for organizations to dabble with, the challenges
posed by IT are no less. First amongst these is the skepticism
shown by business managers over the tangible contribution
of IT to business objectives. For over four decades now IT
has been struggling to prove its relevance to organizational
goals. Unless, IT does not prise itself open for value measurement
scrutiny these concerns are bound to remain. This paper discusses
the need for business-IT alignment and priority setting for
IT to service business needs. It wades through a case example
to explain how IT can (i) set service priority; (ii) show
tangible business value by subjecting itself to measurement
scrutiny.

Improved
Inter Symbol Interference: Jitter Free Coding for Wireless
Ad Hoc Communication --
Sandip
Vijay and S C Sharma
The
Inter-Symbol Interference time Jitter Free (ISI-JF) coding
and Constant Phase Modulation (CPM) technologies are very
important in the non-linear wireless ad hoc communication
channels. In this paper, we have discussed the principle and
the properties of the ISI-JF baseband pulses. By using pulse-shaping
and phase path-controlled technologies, a new ISI-JF pulse
is presented which has better performance. Simulation results
show that when the improved ISI-JF pulse is applied to the
QPSK technology, the ISI-JF modulated signals can provide
more continuous phase path and get 3 dB envelope fluctuation
reductions with small additional complexity.

Heavy
Rain Effects on Communication in Hilly Area: A
Simulation --
Prodipto Das and Bipul Shyam Purkayastha
This
paper aims at the simulation of heavy rain effects on communication
systems in the hilly areas like Mizoram in India. The scope
of the present research work is the altitude regions ranging
from 4,000-7,000 feet (ft) from the sea level as well as the
rain intensity in the range 2,000 to 4,000 millimeter (mm)
per year. A simple mathematical formula for calculating the
rain attenuation is used. The average attenuation is simulated
in a communication system having base-band modulator-demodulator.
The number of errors is calculated in a different set of transmitted
data and at different attenuation levels.

Quantitative
Evaluation of E-Banking Websites: A Study of Indian Banks
-- Amit Saraswat and Ashish
Katta
With
the growth of web technologies, there can be two strategies
for Internet banking: First, an existing bank with physical
locations can offer Internet banking to its customer. The
second could be to establish a virtual bank, with no physical
outlets. Many banks are now providing a host of activities
on the website, some of the important ones being fund transfer,
draft, cheque book request, etc. To explore electronic banking,
an objective research has been conducted by manually accessing
and evaluating the websites of Indian state, public and private
banks. The quality of web pages was determined using a tool
called Web Assessment Index (WAI), which focused on categories
such as accessibility, speed, navigability and content.

Edge
Enhancement Using an Adaptive Fuzzy Logic --
T C Raja Kumar and S Arumuga Perumal
In
this paper, fuzzy technique is proposed to extract edges in
2D monochrome images. Fuzzy-based pixel selection can improve
the drawbacks of conventional approach, for instance, the
Prewitt and Robert methods. In the conventional methods, there
are fixed parameters for all kinds of images, therefore they
might succeed in one image but fail in another one. In this
framework, the threshold can determine adaptively for different
images. Besides, the threshold value is replaced by inference
of fuzzy rules. The threshold parameter value is obtained
for a different histogram of the input image. In this proposed
method, the noises are reduced and the thick edges are generated
for the object contours.

Digital
Libraries - A Cyber Reading Room: Its Perception and Usage
Among Management Faculty --
Ankit Mehrotra and Reeti Agarwal
Libraries,
which were once the sole gateway to information and knowledge
are no longer the same. As more information becomes freely
available, the concept of digitization of information is gaining
momentum. `Digital Libraries' clearly are the way to future.
This revolution in the library function is well underway in
universities and research sectors and is also happening in
schools, corporations and even in public libraries. The present
study was undertaken to gain an insight into the acceptability
and perceived usage of digital libraries in the Indian context
and to identify issues associated with it among the management
faculty members. The results show that there is a growing
acceptance of digital libraries among the management faculty
members who perceive it mainly as a good research repository.

Radio
Frequency Identification (RFID): Applications and Indian Scenario
-- Meetali Saxena and Gayatri
Doctor
Radio
Frequency Identification (RFID) is a technology that enables
wireless data capture and transaction processing. It is an
automatic identification method which relies on storing and
retrieving remote data. RFID is creating an impact on the
way identification and tracking of items are done. RFID was
initially used in industries to improve the supply chain,
but today it finds its applications in manufacturing, warehouse
management, medical and health care, animal identification,
education, etc. Indian textile houses like Pantaloons, Mudra
Garments are in their initial stages of deploying RFID for
different functions. The changing global market is influencing
the Indian industry to explore this area.
